University Legal Services (ULS) is a private, non-profit, 501(c)(3), community-based organization that provides housing counseling, tenant purchase/asset management assistance to low and moderate incomes persons throughout the District of Columbia. ULS also serves as the Protection and Advocacy (P&A) agency for the District of Columbia through their Disability Rights DC (DRDC) unit. Through DRDC, they advance the mission to advocate for the human, civil and legal rights and protections of people with disabilities.

For 30 years, the Catholic Charities Legal Network has provided pro bono legal services, giving persons accessing this program general information, access to volunteer attorneys and law firms, as well as referrals to other appropriate legal service organizations. Their civil law subject areas include: consumer debt/bankruptcy, employment, family law, landlord-tenant/housing issues, public benefits, and estate planning.

Legal Aid DC provides free legal services to those with little or no income, including direct representation to clients in four substantive practice areas. They also handle appeals on a broad range of poverty law issues through its nationally-recognized Barbara McDowell Appellate Advocacy Project.

The National Legal Aid & Defender Association is America’s oldest and largest nonprofit association devoted to excellence in the delivery of legal services to those who cannot afford counsel.
