Remembering the life of Dr. Bertha Holliday

Consumer Advocate Network would like to pay our respects to a long-time Member of CAN’s Board of Directors, Dr. Bertha Holliday. Dr. Holliday passed away in December, 2023. She was a remarkable person, a beloved member of our community, and she will be sorely missed.

We want to start by saying thank you, Dr. Holliday, for the time, service, nonstop dedication, and passion you put into serving your community, and as a board member for CAN.

Dr. Holliday's list of accomplishments in life is amazing, she was and is a great example of leaving a legacy of selflessness and positivity. She was one to set high standards in life, and she managed to achieve so much while remaining faithful to her principles of equality, opportunity, and uplifting others.

She received a BA from the University of Chicago, an Ed.M. from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. She was an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Vanderbilt University and a Senior Director in the Office of Ethnic Minority Affairs of the American Psychological Association.

Dr. Holliday was a resident of the District of Columbia and resided in Ward 5 since the year 1987. Sometime later Dr. Holliday ran for and was elected to the Advisory Neighborhood Commission for Ward 5. She has been a Congressional Fellow with the Senate Democratic Policy Committee. She was the true definition of striving for success and we, the staff at CAN wish to shine some light on who she was and how much we valued and appreciated her perspective and tireless effort.

Her impact will continue to be felt here at CAN among our staff and consumers, and in the community at large. We feel honored to have been graced with Dr. Holliday’s service, values, and guidance for so many years
